We've
all seen Bermuda on the map--a little speck of green or
red
or whatever color the map maker used to denote a tiny landfall
sitting all by itself a thousand miles from the nearest
continent.
I thought about that little tiny dot as we flew thought the
night from New York, heading for Bermuda. I marveled at
the
concept that modern navigational equipment on the Boeing
737 would be able to find the speck and allow us to hit
the equivalent
of, not the head, but the point of a pin in the dark. Well,
we made it. Actually many thousands of people make it every
year to this former British territory. They come, mostly
from
the U.S., but a lot of Euros and a few from elsewhere also
come to bask in the sun, play in the pink sand, eat their
fill of wonderful fresh seafood, play golf on exquisite
courses
and, if it suits, to sit through a cricket match.
The
Caribbean is traditionally a winter destination, but for those
who can stand a degree or two more in temperature, there are
several degrees of cooling in the prices and special packages
available this time of year. One group of resorts offering
some cool deals is the Hyatts of the Caribbean.
They've got a family deal that's pretty hard to beat, especially
